Like you, I've been at the back of the pack every time I run and have crossed the line as the port-o-potties are being carted away. What a sad situation for first-time marathoners, especially. May they find their internal locus of celebration!

I sincerely hope you share feedback with race organizers to avoid such a snafu in the future, especially since you were a sub-5:30 finisher on an incredibly tough, wet, windy day. My heart truly breaks for everyone who got the shaft from Nike.

I did this race, finished in 5:26, and my friend finished in 5:55. The published cutoff time was 6:30, and it probably took 20-25 minutes after the gun went off for all the runners to cross the start line. By the time I finished, they were out of full marathon finisher's shirts. By the time she finished, they were out of 2010 necklaces and gave her one from 2007. And there were a LOT of people behind her. I might add that the race ran out of mylar blankets long before I crossed the line. Tearing down the finish line before the published cutoff time is inexcusable. And the time should be counted from the time that the last runner started, rather than the time the gun went off.

This is the first I heard of it, and I can't even believe that happened. The people at the back of the pack are working just as hard (if not harder!) than the elites at the front, and for someone to not have a race finish (that they have trained months for) because someone wants to close the race early? That is uncalled for.

It infuriates me when a race runs out of food, t-shirts, medals, etc before the published cutoff time. This? I don't even have words for this.

I am seriously angered FOR those athletes.

Below is a cached version with comments...some of the women who posted were ones who got screwed by the end of the race, even when they finished within regulation time. You'd think that with a name like Nike they'd know how to pull off a world class event. Sadly, they've proven anything but.
