Surviving Week One
My first full week of IMAZ training definitely did not go as I had hoped, but I'm not going to dwell on the things I can't change (no matter how much it irritates me). I know that things will inevitably cause me to veer from the schedule along the way, but I just didn't anticipate it happening so early.
Anyhoo...moving on...
A few things are painstakingly evident as I've finished up week one...
1. My swim fitness has dropped a bit. My swim test found me averaging 1:57-2:01 per 100yds in the pool. I'm not exactly thrilled about this, but I'm not going to complain as I know it's a benchmark for the future. Though I did surprise myself with the 800 straight through since it's been quite a while...and it didn't feel like my lungs were going to burst as anticipated.
2. Strength training isn't so bad after all...and dumb bells are a heck of a lot harder than the shiny pretty weight machine.
3. Pre-work workouts are inevitable with my IM plan as most of my mid-week workouts are two-a-days. I was happy to be able to get one of those in last week.
4. Mo has a ridiculously aggressive bike plan for me since it's my weakest discipline. While I know it's for my own good...I'm (okay...my bum is, rather) probably going to get really tired of it really quickly. He wasn't joking when he said a century a month apparently.
Here's how week 15 (my week 1) panned out, remembering that I missed 3 days with the flu...
Swim - 1900 yards
Bike Trainer - 2h25m
Run - 4 miles
Strength - 30m
Time - 4:44
On tap for this week...a rescheduled run test...and a bike test that looks like it came straight out of a torture manual...in addition to a heck of a lot of swimming, among other things.
