February Awaits
Why hello there from the craptastically cold city of Chicago!
Mother nature is finally showing some slight signs of reprieve.
(And it's about freakin' time.)
We've been pummeled over the past few weeks with unrelenting cold temperatures and snow and ice that just won't melt. Downtown actually had one day where the high was -5 with a feels like temp at -30.
And I'm over it. I do love the winter months...I just love it when those winter months are bearable.
And right now...I'm just a cold-weather wuss.
There isn't too much to report right now in the world of training.
My Friday night swim went...well...swimmingly, to say the least. I cranked out 1550 in drills and freestyle. After about 900 yards things clicked again...catch/pull wasn't a problem...and I really found my rhythm during a set of 250. Felt like I could go for another 1000 yards. I'll be back in the water tomorrow night. Hopefully it'll go just as well, if not better.
Yesterday...well...we won't get into that. It's never a pretty sight when two stubborn bulls go head to head. All you need to know is that it fueled today's 4.4 mile run beautifully. I felt good, even though I nearly wiped out on the path alone Lake Michigan.
Anyways...I must have done something to piss the bike gods off though. I've had every intention to get my bike set up on our trainer the past few days. My trusty steed finally made its way upstairs to our unit (it's been in the bike room)...only to be met by a broken pump. And the replacement pump that Mike bought? Yep. Has a crack in it. Isn't that just lovely?
It'll get resolved...eventually.
But with a new month comes a new slate for things to work toward. My goals for this month are simple since we're still in the process of getting things rolling before my IM plan kicks in...
1. Put in about 10,000 yards in the pool (hopefully with the masters group if ILMS insurance ever gets here)
2. Get about 10 hours in the saddle (even if it is a freakin' stationary bike because I just.can't.win. damnit!)
3. 30ish miles of running.
Easy enough, right? It's weird to think that there are going to be weeks during training where I cover close to the above distance. It sort of makes me think...what the hell have I gotten myself into.
Alright...the little man has to go outside to do his bid'niss...and I need my beauty sleep. Have a good week, campers.

I need a translator to understand all your swimming terminology! :)
-5/-30, I cannot even imagine! I would be all over that stationary bike too. I don't know if it makes a difference with IM training to start off inside? All I know is that I trained for my first marathon through an Okinawan with 80% of it on a treadmill.... and the actual marathon was fine. (Aside from it being your Chicago 30* brrrr-ness!). :)
Did you see Punxsutawney Phil this morning...? Sorry!
Sooo sick of this weather. blech.
