SHAMBALLAH!!!!

Tonight I was given "all the tools I'll need" for race day by Coach Amy.

It consisted of this...

(yes, that's a rubber band)

...and one word:

SHAMBALLAH!!

Will it work? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

And it looks like you'll have to wait and see for an explanation, too.

We head out in ooooh about 4 and a half hours. And I'm still not done packing.

Apparently, this is all really happening. Whether I'm ready or not.

I wonder if this is something you'll put around your wrist and snap it whenever you need a little extra kick in the pants!

GOOD LUCK! I might come out and see you guys. It would be good to find your dad and see how he is recovering from St. Louis. You will do great! Enjoy every minute of it.

I looked up the word "SHAMBALLAH" in the dictionary, thinking that perhaps it was some mystic religion that Madonna may be into.

But the truth is far more interesting.

It turns out the Shamballah is an ancient bird (an evolutionary ancestor of today's Jayhawk) that once roamed the Kansas plains.  Biologists believe that this bird was amphibious, being able to swim, as well as run and bike over great distances under all conditions.

Good luck, Jayhawk!
