A funny thing happened on the way to the finish line...
I set a new PR...

...twice.
What a happy accident! I haven't been running as much as I should, so I figured I'd just go for an 11:00 pace.
I watched the first three miles tick by in 9:21, 9:16 and 9:37. Found it a bit odd that I wasn't feeling at all fatigued.
And thus, I had a new unofficial 5k PR of 30:45. (I checked my watch as I passed the 5k mark, no mats to formally capture my swiftness unfortunately.)
Miles 4 and 5 in 10:15 and 10:46, respectively...from nearly vomiting my blueberry muffin on that last mile after the 2nd water stop. I was at least able to keep it down.
And apparently my Garmin was either off or I did an abnormal amount of weaving and finished the .15 in 1:16...
...regardless, I averaged a 10:09 pace overall for a new 8k PR of 10:31 (official results to come).
It's funny how tri training and doing HR zone runs have impacted my performance. Could this be the year of the sub 2:30 half? The sub 30 5k? the sub 5:30 full?
I think maybe so.
Afterall, it's the year of the half ironman...and I've come to the realization, that anything can happen.

Congrats.
Congrats! I was at the Shamrock Shuffle this morning too although I wasn't as speedy as you were :)
My goal was to finish under an hour and I think I just made it; hit the iPod a little too late so won't be sure until the results come in.
What is this weather anyway? An oven in October for the Marathon and now a misty chilly fog for the Shuffle! Hoping that the Soldier Field 10 Mile is weather to cheer about.
AWESOME! Sounds like it was a good day for everyone out there.
YAY Barb! It was nice to see you at the race this morning. :)
Most excellent!!! Great job. :)
Congratulations on your new 8K PR. I think you're ready to take on the 13.1 next weekend.
(Also congratulations on your new unofficial 5K PR.)
Glad you were able to keep your muffin down.
nice job dude!
There is some crazy Kansas karma in the air today. Congrats on an awesome running performance. Truly amazing. And congrats, too, for some other sporting event that I find it difficult to talk about.
well done with the two PR's!
There's nothing like a new PR to keep you motivated! Congrats!
Congrats!! That is awesome!
Congrats and a geed time.
Only you can run one PR ;-).
Groet Rinus.

Sweet! :) Enjoy it, then get back to work.
Two PRs. You're on a roll, as well as your B-ball team!
damn girl! congratulations!
Way to go, chica! :)
Sweeeetness!!! YOU ROCK, J-HAWK!
Nice job. It's going to be a good year!
Barb congrats! I was planning on running the Shuffle but I was sick and so I skipped it. Looked like the weather wasn't great, hopefully it didn't affect you too much. Good news on the TWO PRs also!
