She's a maaaaaaaaaniac...maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaniac!
...on the floor...and she's dancin' like she's never danced beforeeeee...
Hmmmm...rewrite.
She's a maniac...maaaaaaaaaaaaanic....on thefloor road...and she's dancin' runnin' like she's never danced ran before...
Hmmm...perhaps there's some truth to that...
Three "big" marathon-esque races in four weeks. An Ultra. A Half. And a Marathon. Well...three attempts anyways, considering the drama that threw down in the windy city, much to my chagrin.
This morning we are on the brink of leaving for Kansas City. I'm at work early to get some "super cool fun advertisingy businessy things" done before I go...so naturally, I am blogging.
The plan for tomorrow's half mary is simple. Go out and run easy. Walk the hills (unless I'm feeling Herculean, which in that case I will tear through each and every one of 'em bad boys with my brute, intimidating endurance and strength!!). Take breaks when I need to. Take breaks even when I don't. And basically prepare myself for next weekend's 50k. In a perfect world, I'll maintain about a 12:30 pace. Which has me sitting pretty at the finish line somewhere just under 2:45. But if I come in later than that, it's okay, too.
But I'll admit...I've been holding out on you guys. There's some big news-a-brewin'...a new Declaration of Intent if you will. Tomorrow is a very important race for one reason and one reason only.
It's my mom's first 5k. (And my dad's, too, I think!)
And I couldn't be more excited for her. She, like me, started as the anti-runner. So she'll be power walking her way through this bad boy. And maybe, just maybe, we'll get her jogging every once in a while down the line.
Mark my words, it's the first race of many. She's got another 5k planned in December...and hopefully an 8k or 10k in the line as well...
...but...
Are you ready for this?
I have somehow managed to convince my mum...and it may have involved slight trickery, or perhaps bribery of wine...that she can. and will. complete a half marathon. And somewhere in the process I managed to promise that my sisters and I would do it with her (unbeknownst to them...oops!).
I've got my NY sister sold. She's tougher than she looks. He beat cancer. Has done 20 miles on the drop of a dime. She'll be fine. It's my LA sister that will be the challenge. While itty bitty and charismatic, she may look like she's semi-athletic...but I think she's spent the better half of her life asleep. In the car. On the couch. On the toilet. Sitting there...sawing logs. Borderline narcoleptic. Maybe a half mary would wake her up? Who knows. But I'll get her on board if it's the last thing I do.
So the race? It looks like it's going to be the Palm Springs half marathon in February. I'll keep you posted on the details as they become available...in the meantime...GO MOMMA BERRY!
Okay...so...what on earth have I done this week?
An interesting, slightly painful (a la tendinitis) 3 miler on Monday.
Another brutal, sweat your ass off in the pool swim class on Tuesday.
And a relaxing, gentle yoga class on Wednesday.
Last night was date night since yours truly scored free tickets to see Sheer Madness (totally awesome if you've never been).
So yeah. That's about all that's going on, campers.
Have a stellar weekend, everyone!!
See you on the flip side with a report.
