Recovery.

Sometimes a week off running is good for your soul (or your soles, depending on how you look at it).

And so...I rested.

The days after the imfamous "fun run" were a bit sore. I slowly made my way around the condo and did a lot of couch riding. And to the woman who rolled down her car window and yelled at me (along with honking her horn) because I was taking too long to cross the street, I'd like to suggest you throw that pastry out and start doing something healthy for that body of yours before its too late. If my legs would've allowed me, I would have chased her down the street and kicked her in the shins. Not cool, lady. Not cool.

Tuesday night we had our swim class. In retrospect, it was probably the best thing we could've done for ourselves during recovery. It got our bodies moving in an intense, low-impact workout. Upon getting out of the pool I felt like I had been given a new set of legs.

I had hoped to run on Thursday or Friday, but decided grocery shopping and a date night with Mike were more important. And so it was time for more rest. And then Saturday was hair cut day, and when you've got a super cute new hairdo, you just can't go running and mess it all up...ya know?

This afternoon I went and had my first yoga experience at my new studio, Yoga Now. Holy moly was it amazing. I was one of five first-timers in the Yoga for Athletes class and it was the most fantastic of ass-kickings. It wasn't anything like your traditional yoga class...we listened to Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin and twisted our bodies in unimaginable ways. I'm still sweating over an hour later. This class is going to become a part of my weekly training schedule, and I'm hoping to add the typical meditative, hatha-esque yoga into the routine as well.

Blisters are doing well (although one is peeling back in a grotesque fashion). I lanced those suckers earlier in the week and they've finally healed over. And so I believe I'm going to be in a position to run tomorrow (physically I'm already there, but mentally is another challenge) which is exciting.

And fall is finally in the air. As is the smell of Mike's uber-spectacular pot roast (you guys have no idea just how delicious this dinner is--what a treat!). And naturally, mother nature decided to give Chicago a break in the weather about 48 hours too late. The weather for the Kansas City Half Marathon on Saturday seems to be cooperating with highs in the mid-60's, which is good news for all the runners down there.

Mmmk...that's really all there is going on...so...have a great week...and happy running!

Those blisters are awful! Hope they heal quickly. I got a haircut yesterday too - must be something in the air! That yoga class sounds pretty awesome. Been thinking of adding Bikram Yoga to my training, but after spending much $$$ in Chicago, may not add that to my training until after Christmas.

Blisters suck. I hope you had a nice short prep week for the half-marathon.

You're right.

When there is a new 'do in the immediate future, a run must be postponed.

They don't call it r-e-c-o-v-e-r-y for nothing.

Have you found a half mary for us yet? ;) I'm still browsing.

I'm glad you are recovering well. Also, I'm glad yoga was great. I wanted to take that class today but i was still at my continuing ed class. Maybe we can go together some time - I was trying to convince Tom to go with me.

I'm glad you are taking it easy and easing back into running. Hopefully a really short run will do for you what the water did.

Take care.

A week off is always smart after something like 10/7!

Transition week I think it is called. :) Swimming is a great way to get back into things when parts are sore from the pounding. Do you sneeze like a crazy bastard like I do about an hour after you finish a pool workout?

Enjoy your transition week.  Nice job staying active.

If I see that lady that honked at you, I'll spit on her car.

The yoga class sounds awesome. Everyone I know proclaims how great yoga is, and one of these days I need to add it into my schedule.

Are there any pictures of the super cute new hairdo?

Janis Joplin at yoga? Never taken yoga but I've never heard of Janis being played. That sounds cool. Enjoy your days of rest. The Lakefront 50/50 is right around the corner.

Yay for recovery!! I was surprised how great I felt after swim class once when I was sore from a race. I figured if I had dead legs on land they'd be dead in the water, too, but it felt GREAT!! Good luck at the half!

Good job on getting to that swim class two days after the fun run. Any kind of post-race exercise is great just to wake the legs up, and it's surprising how much better it feels after you're done.

Pay no attention to pastry-chomping ingrate drivers, they're just playa hatas, right? I will say this about a slower pace during the days after a marathon... it makes me lots more patient towards elderly, slower walkers. For a couple of days, we all feel kind of old going up steps, so every marathon gives me a new appreciation of older folks go through...

That sounds like an awesome yoga class! I went in between yoga and pilates and kept getting told to do pilates during training - but I intend to take up yoga when I FINALLY finish training ;)
