Welcome to Running Jayhawk's Blog!

An open invitation...

So. This Saturday...as I fry the big fish...if you've got nothing better to do...you should come down and hang out. The 50k starts at 8:30 and I've got 8 hours to finish the course. And me, in my ultimate slowness...will likely take all 8. Which means Mike is going to be going out of his mind with boredom. It's a loop course, so he'll be able to see me every once in a while which will be nice. But he could certainly use the company. And because 31 miles is a really hella far way to run...I could use some company for a mile or two. So if you're game, bring your running shoes and go for a quick jaunt with me. Oh, who am I kidding...walk with me. 'Cause by the 3rd loop I'm going to be doing a lotta walking!

A few other RBFers are running this as well (Ryan, Garou and JYAJ) so fun times are to be had by all. Oh...and in case you're interested....JYAJ is out to break the world record for joggling the 50 mile distance--which will definitely be a sight to see!

At any rate...if you plan on coming out or stopping by for a few minutes, let Mike or me know (comment, email, phone call, whatever is fine). Directions to the start line can be found here. And you may wanna bring a snack or two as I don't think they're selling stuff for spectators.

It's hard to believe this is all going down in a few days.

...while I'm starting to wonder "what have I gotten myself into" I haven't had that "oh shit!" moment.

...yet.

31 miles! That's like 10 5k's! (yes, I took Math 002 at KU...same class, multiple times).

Have a great time!

It'll be fun! Just think of it as a much less hot version of the Chicago Marathon, with a 10k thrown in on at end, more or less. I'll see you out there - I'm signed up for the 50M.

I've had a couple of the "Oh %(&$(%$!" moments already. I just keep reminding myself of the following:

1) I spent the last bleeping year training for Chicago, so I can do this

2) The weather is going to be almost ideal for me (39/57, light rain & wind).

3) It's a whole new race length, so my only real goal is to finish.

4) The aid stations are closer together than they were for Chicago.

5) I could probably order pizza and have it delivered to the start line, if I felt like it.

and last,

6) I need to do a 50k, to prep myself for a 50 miler, to start the long slog toward running the Western States 100.

While I know it's not the same, I'll dedicate a few miles of my marathon this Sunday to you, Barb.

Good luck, and have fun. I can't wait to hear all about it.

I'll be there with bells on and my running shoes! I'll probably get there later in morning - around 10:30 to 11.

If Chicago were just a teensy bit closer, I would totally stop by, but as it is, it's a bit of a haul. But, good luck!

Good luck this weekend! It's going to be a great race. Although, the email they sent with last minute instructions sounded pretty complicated. I hope we don't get lost on the path.

Cool, rainy and windy. Perfect weather for joggling.
