One of us.
Well campers.
There's a new blogger in town.
She's been reading all of us for a long time now...and she's found herself so inspired that she's laced up hersneakers running shoes and took her first steps as a walk-runner.
You may have seen her on the sidelines spectating...cowbell in one hand, sign in the other, cheering as loud as she can for every last person on the course. She's sported devil horns and bright red wigs to bring a smile to droves of marathoners. And she was even one of the saints on the side of the road selflessly giving out water and Gatorade bought with her own money during that dreadful Chicago Marathon.
And now, she has moved from the sidelines and is one of those folks out there giving it her all.
She's62 39 and completely embraces the spirit of a marathoner. Within the past few weeks she has started the journey to completing a half marathon...probably one of the greatest challenges she's faced in a long time. Her first 5k was this past weekend and even though she was mortified by receiving bib #6969 she had a blast (although I'm a bit concerned that she was embarassed by that number...because it implies she know what that means, and really that's a bit...well...uhm...too urban dictionaryish for my liking).
She's been your cheerleader for a while, even if you've never met her. Now...let's return the favor and cheer her on...
So...when you have a moment, please stop by and give my mom some love.

I better get cracking! Did you read Mom's latest post? She's now walking two and then running one. Holy cow! Jayhawk, I need my training plan and I need it soon if I'm gonna keep up with the two of you!!! Oh, and when you plan it, keep in mind that I take a body toning class every Tuesday and Thursday. Love ya, your big sis.
HI!! Congrats on your 1/2 (and your upcoming HUGE race). My god. That is craziness what you've signed up for!! :) That's so cool you got your mom on board. Good luck this wkd!!
Love it!! I blogrolled her, too, so I can visit her often.
Rock on, Jayhawk Mom!!!
ADORABLE!!
Just a general comment: It is great to hear of spectators becoming participants. Marathons are special that way, I think. Hurrah again for Chicago, in spite of everything.
And then OH Hurrah for MOM .. and Daughter! How precious to share... running!
Yeah for mom! **Cheers**
Too funny about the bib number...
my son was on a youth football team in about 5th grade where I had to endure an entire season of him wearing the #69 jersey without gigling..... He never played football again after that season (took up golf) and I am convinced it was because of the number! (Why, why, why would they give a tween age kid that number?? LOL)
Awesome!
That's so awesome!
OK -- I'll ask the dumb question (and probably reveal my "generation" in the process). What's the significance of the number 6969?
It's never too late to start. My father started at 63 and still outruns me. Good for your mom!
