I'm Ready...
It feels like just a few weeks ago I crossed the finish line in Chicago, ending yet another great season with TNT. It's funny to think that Chicago Marathon training is going to pick up in just a short 2 weeks. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time off from training...I've been taking it easy for fear of burning out in the thick of official marathon training. I've had a few nice and easy runs sprinkled here and there, nothing crazy (obviously)...of these, I have found that my legs felt strong, I pushed myself to run further before stopping to stretch/walk, and when I do have to stop and walk, it's for a relatively short amount of time...like 10 yards...if that.
Which is brilliant, right? :)
So tonight is our TNT mentor meeting. It's strange to think that we'll start receiving our mentees as soon as the end of the week. A fresh batch of excited marathon hopefuls ready to take on 9 months of training.
I'm just ready to get this show on the road and get running "full time" again...
I know Mike and I won't do any serious half marathon training until the weekend group runs kick back into gear on Feb 10th. Once we start waking up at the crack of dawn on Saturday to head out to the path, it'll be easier to find our motivation on the distance front. The spring team will already be mid-mileage for the CMM half, and we should be able to jump in with ease into their schedule for some of the longer training runs. No biggie.
As far as the Galena Triathlon goes, we're signing up this week I think. I'm becoming less and less nervous about the open water swim...and becoming a bit more paranoid on the hilly bike ride. Is it bad that the thought of hopping off of the bike and running it up the hills has crossed my mind multiple times? There really are not any substantial hills out here in Chicago, which will make training interesting to say the least. I envision the course being very similar to the elevations in my parents neighborhood...you're always going up or down...there is very little flat land. Brutal. I'll have to head over to Waterfall Glenn and ride along the half mile stetch that's uphill over there.
I'm just patiently waiting for this snowy crap outside to melt so I can actually take ye olde bike outside for a spin...and hopefully not kill myself with the clips.
In the meantime, I think I'm going to establish a Friday Night Lamers Club (but with a more clever name). You know...for all the area runners who have to wake up early the following morning to run their buns off. I foresee lots of movies, games, pasta dinners and maybe even an evening at Grant Park or two.
Any takers?

Hey, I'm lame. Sign me up!
I would be ALL OVER the Friday Night Lamer's Club. Because if we all play Parcheesi together, then it makes it totally not lame. Right?
Can I join the club? I'll conference in...
Dude, one night before a race with my co-workers we did a full on pasta-party and games night. SO FUN. Usually (unless I go out and party anyway and consequently have to run hungover) I'm all by myself. This is a FABULOUS idea!!! I love the name too. Happy triathloning!
I would be all over the "lamers" club, if only I lived close by.
Lamers club sounds like fun!! Seems like just yesterday I was dancing around to the super bowl shuffle! LOL
Barb, it's really wonderful (and inspiring) that you and husband are continuing promoting, supporting TNT. You two must be really great people ;) And I love the Friday night idea... just might have to steal that from ya! (and thanks for the *hugs*)
acnBarb, your idea with the Friday night Lamers Club is an awesome idea. I wish someone had type of idea where I live. I would like the God-damn early runs more better.
I'm game for Friday nights! Tom has guys night out every friday night so I must need something to do.
Friday night lamers club. What a great idea. Can I establish a chapter in KC?
Of course, would that mean no more Friday night Happy Hours?
We are the Bears Shufflin' Crew
Shufflin' on down, doin' it for you.
We're so bad we know we're good.
Blowin' your mind like we knew we would.
You know we're just struttin' for fun
Struttin' our stuff for everyone.
We're not here to start no trouble.
We're just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle.
Walter Payton
Well, they call me Sweetness,
And I like to dance.
Runnin' the ball is like makin' romance.
We've had the goal since training camp
To give Chicago a Super Bowl chance.
And we're not doin' this
Because we're greedy.
The Bears are doin' it to feed the needy.
We didn't come here to look for trouble,
We just came here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.
Willie Gault
This is Speedy Willie, and I'm world class.
I like runnin' but i love to get the pass.
I practice all day and dance all night,
I got to get ready for the Sunday fight.
Now I'm as smooth as a chocolate swirl,
I dance a little funky, so watch me girl.
There's not one here that does it like me,
My Super Bowl Shuffle will set you free.
Mike Singletary
I'm Samurai Mike I stop'em cold.
Part of the defense, big and bold,
I've been jammin' for quite a while,
Doin' what's right and settin' the style,
Give me a chance, I'll rock you good,
Nobody messin' in my neighborhood.
I didn't come here lookin' for trouble,
I just came to do The Super Bowl Shuffle
(Repeat Chorus)
Jim McMahon
I'm the punky QB, known as McMahon.
When I hit the turf, I've got no plan.
I just throw my body all over the field.
I can't dance, but I can throw the pill.
I motivate the cats, I like to tease.
I play so cool, I aim to please.
That's why you all got here on the double
To catch me doin' the Super Bowl Shuffle.
Otis Wilson
I'm mama's boy Otis, one of a kind.
The ladies all love me
For my body and my mind.
I'm slick on the floor as I can be
But ain't no sucker gonna get past me.
Some guys are jealous
Of my style and class,
That's why some end up on their -,
I didn't come here lookin' for trouble,
I just get down to The Super Bowl Shuffle.
Steve Fuller
They say Jimbo is our man.
If Jimmy can't do it, I sure can.
This is Steve, and it's no wonder
I run like lightnin', pass like thunder.
So bring on Atlanta, bring on Dallas,
This is for Mike and Papa Bear Halas.
I'm not here to feather his ruffle,
I just came here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.
Mike Richardson
I'm L.A. Mike, and I play it cool.
They don't sneak by me 'cause I'm no fool.
I fly on the field and get on down.
Everybody knows I don't mess around.
I can break'em, shake'em,
Any time of day.
I like to steal it and make 'em pay,
So please don't cry to beat my hustle
'Cause I'm just here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.
(Repeat Chorus)
Richard Dent
The sackman's comin', I'm your man Dent.
if the quarterback's slow,
He's gonna get bent.
We stop the run, we stop the pass,
I like to dump guys on their -.
We love to play for the world's best fans,
You better start makin'
Your Super Bowl plans.
But don't get ready or go to any trouble
Unless you practice
The Super Bowl Shuffle.
Gary Fencik
It's Gary here, and I'm Mr.Clean.
They call me "hit man,"
Don't know what they mean.
They throw it long and watch me run,
I'm on my man, one-on-one.
Buddy's guys cover it down to the bone,
That's why they call us the 46 zone.
Come on everybody let's scream and yell,
We're goin' to do the Shuffle,
Then ring your bell.
William Perry
You're lookin' at the Fridge,
I'm the rookie.
I may be large, but I'm no dumb cookie.
You've seen me hit, you've seen me run,
When I get the pass, we'll have more fun.
I can dance, you will see
The others, they all learn from me.
I don't come here lookin' for trouble,
I just came here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.
When I come back in May, you can count me in as a Lamer!
As for the Bears... I am their lucky charm I think. I was born in '85 and the superbowl is on my birthday this year. Go Bears!
Go Fire!
I love the sound of that Club. But something tells me it might turn into a club that gets up later and later each day after a get together. hehehe
Oh and I LOVE the picture on FML's blog. tee hee hee
OMG, did Lauren say she was BORN in 1985?!
*sigh* I'm old.
