Could it be...fate?
If this isn't fate, then I don't know what is...
However...the April date is out of the question since we're running Nashville. However, September is tempting...the only problem is, it'd be the week before the Chicago Marathon.
So is it doable? Or outright stupid?

Hmmmm. It's been the early 90's since I wheeled a road race. I've obviously never done a tri. Pretty sure those dont exist for the disabled (such as me). So, I have no experience with that. I don't know how tri training differs from run training.
I will ask this: do you think you are capable of completing both events, without trying for PR's? Or would you be risking injuury? If you can do it, do it. So what if you can't run flat out in one event? Atmosphere is often a compelling reason to participate in these things, IMHO.
Hmmm, the Chicago marathon is early this year. I agree with Cory that it depends on your conditioning at that point. You might be able to pull it off but I wouldn't make that your first triathlon.
I would not push it unless you want to risk an injury. You do not want to screw up you chances with the Chicago Marathon. This Firefly would be sad. :(
I obviously have no real advice.
But if you miss the Chicago marathon I will pout a lot.
I'm not one to tell you what you can and can't do ... but I don't even think I'd try that. I don't think you'd enjoy Chicago at all...
I'm considering my advice very carefully here, because I tend to be one who likes to throw caution to the wind and I almost always suggest that others do the same.
But in this case, I'm not comfortable with the tri date one week before the marathon. Chicago is early this year and you need to be careful to have a proper taper.
So in this case my advice will be boring and conservative: focus on the marathon.
I have a feeling you are going to post a great time this year!
I've never done a tri, but I say focus on just one thing: either do the tri or do Chicago. Both of them seem like the recipe for an injury -- or exhaustion.
psssshaw....totally doable.
really though, it sounds very daunting to me but i just wanted to say 'psssshaw'. perhaps you can aim for both, and then reassess in a few months.
I definitely like how Katie said "psssshawwwwwwwwwwww." It is one of my favorite expressions as well. In fact, you had better incorporate it into your next post, young lady.
I think it seems crazy but I don't swim or bike so no matter when you do it seems crazy to me!
As a fan of the JayHawks after living in Kansas City for a number of years and a former runner of the Brew to Brew, I have to say that if this is a short TRI you can definitely do it. Especially, if you go out and enjoy the triathlon at a comfortable pace. I love the Running Jayhawk theme of the blog.
Triathlons are always fun definitely give it a try if you can.
Rock Chalk!!!
Oh do it!!! Something different right?!?!
If it's your first tri, there's an excellent chance you'll be absolutely exhausted by the finish. It's probably doable, but I wouldn't recommend it the week before the marathon, especially if you're going to be shooting for a Super Good Race. (If you were just going to run Chicago for kicks with no real time goal? That might be different.)
Have you thought of the Accenture Tri? It's at the end of August, which will be better timing wise. There's the sprint event on Sunday, or the Super-Sprint on Saturday. The super-sprint is way short (400m swim, 10k bike, 2.5k run), and will be doable on not-much training. (If, like me, you think really hard about getting in the pool but very rarely actually do.) I did the super-sprint last year, and it was a blast. It's a much smaller event than the Sunday tri, and so it's incredibly laid back and far less intimidating.
All that said, I highly recommend giving the tri thing a shot - it's WAY fun :-)
