The Schlep to Work...8:45am...
When I looked out the window this morning, it didn't appear like much happened over night. It was pretty much the same sight that I was left with at 12:30. Except now, snow was actually coming down...from the sky, from the tops of buildings, it was blowing all over the place...nothing too dramatic...yet.
Here are some photos from this morning's walk into work (yes campers, I walk to work)...enjoy!
Watch that pretty little head of yours! Did you know that "falling ice" injuries are quite common here? Chunks of ice will fall off the side of a building and whack folks in the head. Ouch. I'm a bit surprised that they already have these out, given the fact there's not too much ice accumulation going on. At least this strip had the courtesy to salt their sidewalks.

The corner of Michigan Ave and one of the Lake Streets. You really can't tell from my camera phone, but the snow is-a-blowin'!
Contrary to popular belief in the city, we do have snow plows! It just takes them a while to get around. We have 90,000+ miles worth of streets in Chicago and less than 300 plows. Do the math, campers.
More to come later...assuming that I'm not setting up camp in an igloo around lunch. They're still predicting upwards of 8 inches (translation...some icy sleet and about 3-4 inches of slush).

BARB!! How do you walk to work in conditions like that with heels on?? You poor thing!!! I had no idea! :-)
Oh Rabbit.
I am not as talented as you. I wear flats mostly. And the rare days I do wear heels, I walk in flats and then change at work.
Holy cow, I would never leave my house. We are way too spoiled in Phoenix.
Glad I'm here in Disney World with 80+ degree weather!! Stay warm baby girl!!!! Mom
Barb, I am showing the love here. It will make the game on Sunday VERY interesting. :D
Sounds like fun weather! It didn't even look like a snow plow was needed in that picture! Stay warm..stay safe!
YAY!! What fun! I wish we got snow!!! Build a snowman, ok!
I'm a flat kind of girl too!
And who knew we had 90,000 miles of roads - that would be one hell of a marathon.
so what do they want you to do to take caution? wear hard hats? seems dangerous! Very cool city photos though!
Consider yourself lucky to be able to walk to your destination. By Red Line train it took me nearly two hours to get downtown. Bleh.
Thank goodness the snow is gone.. for now.
I wish I could walk to work. It would save so much gas, time, the environment; plus, you get a mini-workout! But, I do not envy that weather! We'll look forward to more reports as you dig out!
WOW...careful of the falling ice!
Great photos! I wish I could walk to work.
so what exactly are you supposed to do when you see one of those signs? put on your handy snow helmet? ;)
gosh, chicago looks a LOT different in your photos from the one time I saw it - Oct '05 for the marathon! don't hurt yourself out there!
