All work and no running makes Barb a dull girl.
Sooooooooo...I really haven't run at all since Sunday. Last Sunday, that is. Sunday October 29th.
All together now...."BAD BARB!!"
Between work sucking the life out of me and then wanting to just relax and do nothing after work this week...I've just been...well...sitting on my rear, riding the couch, and collecting dust...
It's like, without having officially proclaimed my next "big" event...I really have no motivation to train.
So here it goes.
My spring marathon will be...
This one.
(half mary is still pending...)
I'm a girl with southern roots, so it's only fitting I go back and give it a run. Plus we've got old family friends there, and a two rockin' RBFers with an adorable pooch, and my folks say they might could be swayed to come out.
I'll admit...I'm a bit scared to train for this one alone (not alone, with Mike of course). Both of my marathons I trained with TNT in a group. And I know alumni can go back and run anytime with the Team...but it's weird this time...going solo that is.
Any advice?
This time will be all about discipline. MAKING myself get up when the wind chill is -10 and just go run. ...you know, for the hell of it. We're planning on a modified Pfitz plan as well as actually incorporating speed work into our routine this time around. I'm intimidated to say the least. (Stop laughing. I'm trying to be serious here.)
My goal for this weekend? To run...a minimum of 4 miles.
My goal for this marathon? To get as close to 5:30 as possible and to NOT LET MYSELF GET OVERANXIOUS THE MORNING OF THE RACE AND COMPLETELY LOSE IT MENTALLY.
I think I need a sports psychologist. ...but more on that later.
I'm such a slacker. Let's hope the weather complies and I can at least do it outside and not on the hamster wheel. If I'm outside...I might just go for five miles. We'll see how I'm feeling!

we can try and do long runs togeter...when we run long we run straight down Chicago to the lake front....then we can all be in -10 degree misery together :-)
riding the couch!
*sniff*
looks like Indy Mini is out....
*sniff*
I trained for Chicago with my local TNT group even though I was't fundraising or mentoring for that season. I am mentoring for the winter season and training with them still. You should have the same options. It is always good to have alumni out on the course to help the newcomers - fundraising hints, insight on running, walking, run/walking, what happens at events, encouragement, etc.
Congrats on choosing your spring mary. I'll miss you at the Flying Pig, but I'll look forward to seein' ya at Chicago again!
Cool Barb! good luck with the training. I am interested to see how you modify Pfitz. I would suggest you cut mileage but do not change the structure. It really makes sense when you go through it.
I think I got the greatest benefits out of that plan from the mid week long runs, the LT runs and the Marathon Pace runs towards the end. They are all hard, the long runs due to time and the LT's just because they are hard. But they pay off I promise you they pay off. The MP runs just were a huge confidence boost for me. Good luck girl!
Gosh, I want to do that marathon sooo bad! I just don't know if it will be possible with my schedule!
Good luck with your training! I look forward to reading about it!!
Good luck in Nashville; that should be fun! I think "Just Keep Running" Brooke will be there too.
I am in pretty much the same space as you right now. Bad Jelly Bad!
And I haven't fully decided what I'll do in the spring either, making the motivation less...... urgent. Anyhow, I'll figure something out soon, I hope, but I'm pretty sure nothing "big" in the spring.
In terms of training solo, I won't lie ... it can be so not fun at times. But good tunes always helped. And bloggerworld. Good luck!
Glad you decided on your next marathon! You'll be fine with the training, don't worry! OOSG will be with you, and we will all keep you in line. Even if it requires a drive to Chicago to drag you out the door. :)
You CAN DO IT, Barb!! You are definitely not alone with this. You have the entire RBF being you during the whole training. I will be doing my 1st marathon alone after P.F. Chang's. If I can do it, you do it!
I was in the same boat, as you know. But I finally got out and ran again and it felt terrific. I'll bet you have tons of stored up energy!
You are totally going to smash through 5:30 your next marathon!! I know you can do it!
Just think of it as a new challenge... training "alone". Won't lie, it's not the most fun, but you can do it! And you really won't be alone you know!
Hadn't pegged you for a country girl! I can't wait to hear about your adventures in running this marathon! xo-T
Oooooooooooooh Taryn. I'm definitely NOT a country girl. I love me some good ole fashion 90's alternative...I just so happened to have grown up outside of Nashvegas...however I was fortunate enough to not have had much exposure to country (phew!)
Sounds like SOOOO much fun! Not the minus 10 part...the CMM with Rae part! I think you are very capable of 5:30, and you've got plenty of time to get there. Just put in the miles and some speedwork, and you can do it.
I'm a good ole' fashioned 90's alt. girl, too! Me heart Eddie Vedder. :)
Ohhhh...Nasville's one I didn't even think about. That's close to home for me. I'll add it to my mix of races to consider. It's getting down to crunch time where I have to make a decision huh? I'm setting myself a goal of deciding by December 1 what I'll run this spring.
Training by yourself can be fun. I've learned a lot more about self motivation running alone. Sometimes it's nice to be alone with your thoughts, other times, not so much. You'll do great. If you need a virtual running partner, I'm sure there are plenty of us who would be glad to put you on speaker cell phone and run with you every week. (Don't laugh, I've done this before...more than once)
Having a new plan will get you out the door. I'm looking forward to reading more about the "sports psychologist."
PUHHHHLEEAAASE! The sheer excitement of hanging with us and shopping for cowboy hats will eliminate all race morning anxiety! Consider us your entertainment!!
I CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL APRIL!! 2007 is going to kick ass. You guys here in April, us up there in June and October!!! HOW LONG UNTIL NEW YEARS PEOPLE!!???!!??
And you won't be training alone!! We'll all be running, just not in the same place!!
I am more than happy to run with you anytime to help with pacing at the end of long runs etc. I'm not going to do a marathon this year but I still want to run. So my suggestion is get blogger support.
I was talked into doing the CMM yesterday as part of a double marathon weekend (it is totally insane on my part and I don't know what I was thinking!!!). But it will be fun!
And yes, train with your local TNT group. Show up. Donate GU and gatorade. They would be happy to have you.
my sister's finace ran nashville last spring...it was his first. said it was fun, lots of hills. the course is a few loops or something. heard the ESPN party was a success :)
aww, I wanted to do that mary...but hubby won't be back from Iraq in time. Enjoy it for me!!
Fun! Not as fun as the pig...but I understand.
:-)
