Marathon Nightmares...and a run in the narrative of the Happy Bunny
So...two nights ago I had the first of which will presumably be a long string of marathon nightmares.
In this dream they re-did the marathon route with the start line actually being inside of the Southwest Airlines terminal at Midway airport. Race organizers asked me to "hold down the fort" at Midway, catching all of the runners as they were arriving and asking them to stay at the terminal start line until the race began (which was occuring about 45 minutes later). And of course, this ensued mayhem. Here I am corraling thousands of disgruntled marathon runners. I couldn't answer any questions because I had no answers. Nobody knew where the race was going to occur so all strategies were thrown out the window and of course, you have the over-eager, type-A personality athletes who were more concerned about people cheating by running on the moving sidewalks than getting to baggage claim to actually find their marathon shoes. I woke up shortly after I received a phone call about the PowerGel folks never arriving and they asked me to start melting gummy bears for the PG Zone. Say whaaaaaaaaaaa?
Oh my gosh...I completely forgot to write this in initially...but in my dream, Elizabeth was an angel, chasing all the kenyans and other athletes around for me, literally screaming at folks to shut up, relax and to look at her...only to have her do her random "happy dance." ...which was sort of like the Truffle Shuffle...but with a little more leg work. Definitely amusing and worth mentioning here. So E-Speed...when I meet you in a few weeks, you'll have to humor me and Do the Truffle Shuffle!!
Crazy. I know. I think I'll lay off the ham dinners for a while.
So today's run (FINALLY, a post-work run)...3.5 miles at an 11:53/mile pace (41:37 time). It felt good, for the most part.
I hit the ground running...totally had one of those "you go girl!" attitudes. I was swift...passing folks right and left (okay, I admit...they were walking)...zipping right by bikers (does it matter that they had stopped to rest?)...and basically flying with a feeling that I just didn't want to stop running...enter happy bunny #1...

A little after 2.5 miles...I...hrmm...tmi...but it's best said with another happy bunny...

I kept it all down though, no fear. After the 3.5 miles on the running path I did a series of untimed wind sprints down clear city blocks on the way to the grocery store (probably a mile's worth) to pick up dinner.
I was stinky! :) Which brings me to my third and final happy bunny...

So there ya have it...a reasonably good run in my book...with the obnoxious happy bunny to tell my story. :) Let's hope that work starts to lighten up so I can get some more evening runs in...

I love having wacky dreams like that (if I can remember them of course).
It's not a marathon related one, but one of my favorite dreams involved John Travolta, Ryne Sandberg & Wesley Snipes. Bizarre yet so cool.
I like the glittery bunnies! And I read a comment you left for someone else...and am making plans to go popsicle shopping...i want one so badly!!!
Cute bunny and no more night mares.
And we thought the energizer bunny was bizarre! Great story!
And I thought dreaming about showing up to a race naked was a nightmare ... this makes it look like just a minor oversight!
OMG! That's a horrible dream. I LOVE the bunnies!
And I thought I was having wacky dreams. Don't worry, if that ends up happening, I'll be sure to help direct all of the runners.
Don't evening runs feel terrific? Those bunnies do a good job of telling the story.
Though I'm not surprised to see the words "nightmare" and "Midway Airport" together in the same story, it does strike me as a strange tableau for a marathon dream. Scary stuff!
Let me know if you are ever looking for someone to run with in the evenings. I could use the company on Thursday and Friday evenings for my short runs.
freaking awesome!!!
Everyone has scary dreams about what they are anticipating. Before the beginning of a new semester, I dream of my classes, and when I used to wait tables, I would have what I called "waitressing dreams." I'm sure I'll get marathon dreams as well, but mine will be closer to x-mas
i am a race director master :-) I'll be there to help you direct runners :-)
love the bunnnies
OMG I may have to run with a halo ;) That is so strange!
I LOVE happy bunnies! Glad your run went so well!
At least it wasn't a naked dream. Those are frightening!
Way to go on the run!
Love the bunnies. And that nightmare makes mine look SO boring. Then again, I've lived a few waking nightmares at Midway ...
I'm off to an after-dark run now. They're becoming my favorites now that ya gotta get up REAL early to beat the heat.
Uh, that IS a crazy marathon dream. My marathon dreams always consist of this little old lady with a walker passing me like I am standing still. Is that a sign that I am running too slow? Go figure!
Cute...too fucking cute!
i have those rabbits, as magnets, all over my fridge.
awesome.
