To CDC or not to CDC? That is the question.

Sooo...do I run the Chicago Distance Classic (a half marathon) on August 13th or not. THAT is the question.

PROs:
  • It fits right along in with that weekend's training run (it's supposed to be a 10-miler cut back week).
  • It's only $50 registration.
  • Mike is going to run it.
  • I'd get a super cool penguin medal since it's a John Bingham event!!!
CONs:
  • Most of my TNT mentees are running the CDC and it'd be really awesome to be cheering them on along the course and at the finish line (some might not have anyone there for sideline support).
  • Mike is going to run it...it'd be really cool to let him run his own race and watch him at different points. But we're different paces so he technically WOULD be running his own race.
  • I'm supposed to be running the Elvis is Alive 5k the night before with Race Crew (not signed up yet, so no big deal).
  • Homie don't like running in da heat.

What's a girl to do? I'm strangely torn about running this race. All suggestions welcome...

oooh...goods on both sides. I always run with Jason and so I think it would be really fun to watch him race and cheer him from the sidelines...HOWEVER I would probably be annoyed that I was not running it...

The pro's seem to out weigh the cons to me. I say go for it, it's always fun to race.

And Leah is so coy, what she means is she would be annoyed if she could not beat Jason. hahahaha

that's a TOUGH call. personally, i think you should disregard all social factors and decide:

Do you feel like running a short race or a long race at that point in your training? You'll be in great shape so you've got a good shot at a great time for either.

I really thought about signing up for it. Unfortunately, I have to pass on it this year - but I say, go for it!

I would do it!! Every race, esp a half, is excellent practice for a marathon. Just don't race the 5K the night before and maybe you can go back and cheer for your other runners.

Sounds like you really want to do it, so go for it. You had my vote at "Penguin Medal."

Heat Heat Heat....BLAHHH.

Last years race was stifling. 82º and no breeze. Of course with Chicago, it could be a brisk 65º that day...doubtful however.

Maybe the Chicago Half has your name on it?

I ran it last year, and it was a lot of fun. A little crowded on the lakefront path in some spots, and really freaking hot, but overall a good race.

The Penguin medal rocks - I'd say it's worth running just for that.

Barb, you should totally run this. You can cheer us on at the finish, since you'll get there ahead of me for sure!!

Your faithful mentee,
