I stand firm at ten dollars...

...this should be my motto when entering ANY type of auction. Be it eBay, live or silent. Otherwise, I get myself in trouble.

And tonight...I ended up in a *wee* bit of trouble.

I went to a silent auction with my friend Terri for her sister's school at Rumba. It was amazing. May as well have been a "who's who of Chicago business folks." About 100 parents and around 250+ items on the chopping block.

During the silent auction, I got a little carried away. I had my number down for spa services, a Caribbean getaway, restaurant gift cards, the works! Lucky for me, other folks snuck in and stole handfuls of stuff out from under my nose.

But in the end, I won. I paid $95 for a $100 gift card toward a new bike (it was a surprise for Mike--he's been talking about wanting a bike for a while now). And then I paid $120 for a $150 gift card and gait analysis at Momentum -- NEW SHOES, HERE I COME!!! The funny part about the Momentum gift card, the value on the silent auction slip had a typo and said $105, but it was $150 in the book. Oopsies. Folks saw me bidding $120 and thought I was getting ripped off. So yours truly saved $30 on new running gear! Yahoo!

So hopefully this week I'll indulge in new shoes. I was hoping that my legs have been bothering me because of my obscene obsession with flip flops. But the more I think about it, the more I realize that you guys, and my hubby, are right. I simply need new shoes. My NBs only have 200-something miles on them, so they're retiring early. But if it helps my shins and feet and toes and legs...then it was well worth indulging in the auction.

Saturday Mike and I ran along the lakefront. He went a lot further than me. I went around 3.5 miles or so. The garmin was acting up because of the sky scrapers and underpasses and what not. I ended up just listening to my body and running at what felt good, with painful shins and all.

This past week we also invested in The Stick (20"). It feels pretty darn good when put to use. I unfortunately have not yet had the opportunity to partake in the cruel torture that is Pirate Patch and abs.

Later this week we'll hopefully have a running report from Kansas.

Congrats to Rae and Brent for their rockstar PRs at the Country Music Half-Marathon this past weekend. Way to go you two! And of course, a round of applause for my friend *Dani* who, despite being seriously sick, didn't give up. You guys all rock!

I love my stick! It is the best a girl can get that can't afford a real massage every week!

Congrats on the great deals won at the auction! I, too, have learned I have to stick with a specific price and not go over. It is so easy to get sucked into the competition and want to win! :)

Hmmm.....I may need a stick!!

Yeah for new shoes! I've also read that it's 300-500 miles OR six months. Apparently age will make them lose their cushioning and so will summer heat.
